During a week where she's beginning play in her first-ever U.S. Open, Jean Reynolds might not have minded that a pair of Georgia golfers were about to tie her tournament record at the GSGA Georgia Top-60 on Wednesday.
In her first round since being eliminated Thursday at SummerGrove Golf Club during the Womens Western Golf Association National Amateur Championship, Leigh Crosby of Athens was one of two standouts that tied Reynolds single-round tournament record of 69, as play began at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega.
Both Crosby and Kendall Wright of Suwanee fired a 3-under 69 to lead tournament after the first of two rounds while playing in the Championship Flight.
Final-round action gets under way today beginning at 8 a.m. A pair of locals began play in subsequent flights at the Top 60 event. In the Third flight, Jodie Shepard of Newnan was tied for 7th while Cheryl Drewyer was tied for 10th in the Fourth Flight.
LOCALS CONTINUE TO SHINE IN AJGA PLAY: Connor Jones won the 18-hole, 15-18 year-old division as the Atlanta Junior Golf Association held an event Tuesday at Planterra Ridge Golf Club in Peachtree City.
Jones shot an 82 to finish one stroke ahead of Cameron Boling of Fayetteville.
In other division play, Tyler Anderson of Senoia was third in the 18-hole, 13-14 year old division won by Brian Covington's tournament-best round of 79. Emily Stallings of Fayetteville won the 18-hole girls division by shooting an 80.
Morgan Kory of Peachtree City was third in the girls nine-hole division, shooting a 49.
TEMPLETON PLAYS IN GSGA U.S. AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS: Brian Templeton of Newnan was among a field of 43 golfers at the GSGA's U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifier held Monday and Tuesday at Durham Lakes in Fairburn. Templeton shot his best effort during Tuesday's final day, posting an 84.
