Friday's Prep Football Picks

Another week of prep football in Coweta County and another winning record. Last week, we were 4-1 with our prep football picks to improve our mark to 43-11 overall for the season or around 80 percent correct.
We have three games on the schedule tonight.

Tonight’s Games
Colquitt County (8-3) at Newnan (9-2): Even with a healthy quarterback, the Cougars are facing an uphill climb tonight against a Packers program that has made its mark on the road in the state playoffs. In all, Colquitt has won nine games outside Moultrie over their last four trips to the postseason. Even as a No. 4 seed, bumping off a region champion last week was no fluke. Regardless, look for Newnan’s defense to keep the Cougars in this one to the finish. PACKERS 28, COUGARS 17.
East Coweta (5-6) at Camden County (10-1): What began as a young Indians lineup in August has tried to prepare themselves for such a moment tonight by playing its share of tough opponents during the regular season. It paid big dividends last week at Newton in a first-round victory, where East Coweta handled some early adversity in stride before pulling away in the second half. They’ve struggled to get over that hump, however, against opponents with winning records despite hanging with teams in the early goings of games. The good — we see a tight first half. The bad — we see Camden finding their second wind. WILDCATS 41, INDIANS 14.
Westfield School (10-1) at The Heritage School (10-1): If the GISA were a corporation, The Heritage School might have just been handed the keys to the executive washroom following the program’s first state playoff victory in its six-year history as well as the Hawks’ initial trip to the semifinals. As they open the door, however, Westfield’s there to greet them, having now reached Game 13 for the third consecutive season. But while it’s “been there, done that,” for the Hornets — who have yet to go the distance despite a remarkable run in 20 years under head coach Ronnie Jones — Heritage School is here for a reason. More than a dozen seniors have waited patiently for this opportunity to arrive, and after watching Trinity stand toe-to-toe with Westfield on its home field in a defensive struggle, we like Heritage’s chances even better in a fast-paced shootout. HAWKS 35, HORNETS 28.
