Jonathan Ballantyne led the assault on Saturday afternoon in Yatesville as the Cougar sophomore placed seventh in the Rock Ranch Cross Country Invitational.
Ballantyne posted 17:44, securing a top 10 finish (10th) for his team. The Lady Cougars were led by senior Elizabeth Gresham, who was 15th (23:12). The Lady Cougars were fourth in the team standings.
Newnan cross country coach Shaun Dailey was thrilled with the effort of his top two finishers. "Jonathan (Ballantyne) and Elizabeth (Gresham) ran with a great deal of weight on their shoulders. They carried us to the finish line."
Gresham was followed by Sandy Gamino (28th, 24:18), Cesilly Skinner (29th, 24:19), and Ashley Quesinberry (30th, 24:22). Daniella Galvin was 43rd (25:13) and Kristen Adams was 61st (27:23).
Oconee County swept the meet, claiming both team and individual honors. Ann Centner ran a 19:50 to win the girls race. Luella was second and Landmark Christian third in the team event.

The Newnan guys ran without the injured William Pike. The Cougar was fourth last week at the Bob Blastow Invitational.
Dailey believes his team is only going to get better. "I think our squads can improve every week. And our team believes they can contend every time they race," said the head coach.
Newnan returns to action on Saturday as they travel to Carrollton to compete in the Carrollton Invitational. The East Coweta and Northgate squads will join them.
