The Atlanta Junior Golf Association headed to Newnan Country Club Thursday for the first of four youth golf events this summer to be held in Coweta County.

At least five locals factored into top-three finishes in respective divisions on Thursday, led by Carson Vaughn's victory in the 12-under boys, 18-hole category. Vaughn, of Newnan, shot a round of 77 for a 3-stroke victory over Nick Fazio of Carrollton.

Connor Edwards and Chris Avery, both of Newnan, took second and third respectively in the 13-14 year-old, 18-hole division, won by John Harman of Carrollton. Harman blistered the field with a Thursday-best round of 74. Edwards shot a solid 77 to finish three strokes behind, while Avery won a scorecard playoff over Tanner Landry of Marietta for third.

Also finishing in the top-three among locals was Maddux Lytle of Sharpsburg, who tied for second place in the nine-hole Open boys 12-under division. Lytle and Connor Coffee both shot a 53, with Coffee taking a scorecard playoff for second. Andrew Bourg of Fayetteville won the division with a 43 -- tying for best nine-hole round with 13-over division winner Kyle Wilkison of Alpharetta.

Recapping other division winners, Michael Rielly of Alpharetta shot a 50 to win the nine-hole boys 12-under category in a two-shot win over Noah Godfrey of Atlanta and Charlie Robinson of Bremen. Meanwhile, Erick Begitschke of Smyrna held off Jonathan Rampersad of Peachtree City to take a three-stroke win in the nine-hole Club 13-over category.

Carrollton's James Adams broke a three-way deadlock at 81 to win the 18-hole Open 15-18 year old division while battling with Cameron Medina of Bremen and James Jordan of Griffin.

The AJGA will hold three tournaments in Coweta just following the Fourth of July holiday, beginning Tuesday, July 8 with an event at Orchard Hills. On July 9, a tournament will be held at SummerGrove Golf Club before wrapping up a week of in-county events on July 10 at Canongate I in Sharpsburg.
