CCMSAL playoffs ahead

Lee and Madras middle school girls and boys soccer teams clinched first-round byes in next month's CCMSAL Soccer Cup playoffs this week, as the regular season wraps up this week.

The CCMSAL playoffs begin on Dec. 1 with first-round action at East Coweta Middle School (boys) and Northgate High (girls). Semifinals will be held Dec. 2, with the finals set for Dec. 3 at Northgate High.

If Monday's results are an indication, it might be easy for either of the top-two boys seeds. No. 1 seed Madras (7-1-2) battled to a 1-1 tie with Arnall on the road. Jonathan Cortez scored for the Eagles on an assist from Giovanni Perez, while the goal for Arnall (4-3-3) was by Chandler Costlow on a pass from Todd Davis.

Lee (6-1-3), the No. 2 boys seed, also battled on the road on Monday at East Coweta, tying the Indians 2-2, behind a goal and an assist from Boomer Hayes. Lorenzo Lewis also had a goal for the Timberwolves and Adrian Tirado added an assist, while Sam Thomas made five saves in net.

Goals by East Coweta (3-2-5) were scored by Justin Cooper and Cole Antley.

Arnall, as the No. 3 seed, will open the first round on Dec. 1 against No. 6 Smokey Road (0-8-1). East Coweta, the No. 4 boys seed, plays No. 5 Evans (2-6-2).

On Monday, Evans shut out Smokey Road 2-0 at home on a pair of goals by Connor Cox.

Meanwhile, the top-two girls seeds earned wins on Monday to begin to gear up for the CCMSAL playoffs. Lee (9-0-1) remained the league's only unbeaten team with a 4-0 win over East Coweta at home. Serenity Waters had a goal and an assist for the Timberwolves and Taylor Hendrix, Nikki Brandley and Mackenzie Crenshaw also scored. Jordyn Smith had three saves in net.

Madras (7-1-2), which willl finish as the No. 2 girls seed, defeated Arnall 2-1 at home. Logan Perry and Amber Whatley had goals for the Eagles and Mattea Lewis had three saves. Arnall's goal was scored by Savannah Steffens on an assist from Samantha May.

Arnall (4-3-3) will be the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and will play No. 6 Evans (1-8-1) in the first round. East Coweta (2-6-2) is the No. 4 seed and will open against Smokey Road (1-7-2).

Smokey Road shut out Evans 2-0 on Monday at home. Shantel Archie and Brooke Crosby scored goals for the Cougars and Kaitlyn Robinson had an assist. Emily Finger had four saves for Evans.
