White leads list of midseason champs

Trey White survived a three-wide tussle at the beginning of Saturday's Mid-Season Championships in the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Model feature, snagging a lead and never looking back to posting a victory during a busy week at Senoia Raceway.

It continues with a rare Wednesday event tonight at the 3/8-mile dirt track for its July 3 "Sparktacular."

The holiday special event will feature a full night of racing in the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Models, Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks, Bombers and Modified Mini. The Newnan Bonding B Cadets will compete in a special 30-lap main event with a $1,000 purse to the winner. The night will conclude with a fireworks display.

Grandstand tickets are $12 and $5 for children ages 6-12. Pit passes are $25 for adults and $12 for ages 3-12. Trackside parking is available on a first come, first serve basis and includes admission into the pit area.

Pit gates open at 5 p.m., and grandstands at 6. The first green flag is expected around 8 p.m.

Joining White on Saturday with Midseason Championship feature laurels were Alabama’s Roger Arnett in the B Cadet, Roopville’s Clifton Moran in the Hobby Stocks, Newnan driver Brandon Bright in the Mini Stock, Bonaire’s Steven Jensen, Jr. in the Bombers and Villa Rica’s Todd Brewster in the Modified Mini.

White topped a field of 15 entries in Late Model qualifying, but the veteran short tracker bobbled in the first turn of the feature. That near miscue allowed first time track visitor JR Mosesley to jump outside.

White built a straightaway length lead over Moseley during the final laps, and made his way through lapped traffic while Moseley was caught up behind Newnan’s Nicky Prosser. On the final lap while also watching Chad Wallace close the gap on his second-place position, Prosser lost control and collected Moseley sending both towards the concrete in Turn 3. Wallace shot down low to avoid while a hard-charging Dusty Jones heard the call over his receiver just in time to avoid a potential wreck.

The checkers fell while Prosser and Moseley were sliding up the track. That left the final rundown tally with White claiming the victory. Wallace was second and rookie Jones third.

The B Cadets tuned up for its big show tonight. The top-two drivers in the point standings, Roger Arnett and Dow Kirkland, held off all challengers to finish first and second.

Arnett claimed the Midseason title for the Newnan Bonding B Cadets with Kirkland second and Hampton's Paul "Cowboy" Holloway third. Marc Gooden and Keith Hudson rounded out the first five finishers.

Clifton ‘Hog Head’ Moran nabbed his 48th career feature win in the Hobby Stocks. Moran fought hard with Opelika, Ala., driver Allen McConnel through the first 13 laps of their main event. Finally, on lap 14, Moran shot up to the outside of McConnel and then held his line down the front stretch, coming out of it in Turn 1 with the lead for good.

Steven Jensen, Jr. snaked his way through the 12 car field of Bombers to take over the lead from Whitesburg’s Derrick Matthews on lap 5 of the Bomber main event en route to a win. Moreland’s Michael Mills ran second with Matthews third. Peachtree City’s Randy Cornwell was fourth followed by the ‘Riverdale Rocket’ Mike Ray.

Brandon Bright, who suffered a blown engine a few weeks back, returned to victory lane in the Mini Stocks claiming the Midseason crown. Newnan’s Bobby ‘Wild Child’ Arnold, who had his three-race win streak snapped, had to settle for second and Hampton’s Marc Leath was third.

Todd Brewster won the main event and Midseason title for the Modified Mini. The win on a double-points night also gave him back the divisional points lead as he overtook Robbie Scadron.
