Hamilton returns to Georgia Tech as recruiter

by The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) — Former Georgia Tech star quarterback Joe Hamilton has returned to his alma mater as a recruiting assistant.

Hamilton was the 1999 Heisman Trophy runner-up. He worked under Bill Curry as an assistant coach at Georgia State the last two years. Curry has retired.

Hamilton's hire comes five years after his on-campus arrest on charges of marijuana possession, driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run led to his resignation as Georgia Tech's assistant director of player personnel.

Georgia Tech on Friday also hired former Tennessee-Martin and Murray State coach Matt Griffin as director of player personnel. Griffin was quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the UFL Omaha Nighthawks in 2012.

Georgia Tech says it will continue to revamp its player personal and recruiting coordinator efforts.
