Crusaders crush Ezekiel in region opener
The first victory of the season is one that always creates some noise. But Central Christian made a much bigger statement with Friday’s 54-7 rout over Ezekiel Academy in a game played at East Coweta Middle School’s McKnight Field.
It was one that continued to put last year’s struggles both out of sight and out of mind.
Junior quarterback Jared Farlow racked up 110 yards rushing by halftime in Central’s second straight 50-point outing offensively, and the Crusaders equally shined on defense for the second straight week, this time only yielding one score, while improving to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in their ACSC East Region opener.
Ezekiel, out of Montgomery, was shut out during the final two quarters after Central went to halftime ahead comfortably 30-7.
Farlow had three of the Crusaders first four touchdowns.
Central has now outscored its first two opponents this season by a combined score of 106-29 in what has been a 180-degree swing in a lineup that mixes returning standouts with newcomers. It took the Crusaders six weeks to amass over 100 total points in 2013.
The Crusaders will host Lighthouse HomeSchool out of Oneonta, Ala., on Friday at McKnight Field.
