Quintessentials increase medal count at Junior Olympics
DES MOINES — It’s been a successful trip so far for the Quintessentials track team at the AAU Junior Olympics at Drake University.
After six days of competition, the squad has earned three gold medals, three silvers and two copper medals.
On Wednesday, three of the team’s members distinguished themselves by winning medals in the 9-year-old javelin throw.
Aaron Fenimore added to the team’s gold medal count with his solid performance.
Fenimore won the javelin with a distance of 76-6 after previously earning a silver in the shot put.
The battle for gold in the javelin came down to teammates as Fenimore’s mark outdistanced silver medalist Samuel Quinn (75-3) en route to the title.
Peyton Laney didn’t leave the track empty handed after finish fourth with (74-0) to bring home a copper medal.
Action continued for the Quintessentials on Thursday with Dylan Faulkner winning a copper medal in the 10-year-old high jump (4-4).
Josiah Quinn also competed Thursday for the Quintessentials in the 11-year-old javelin, finishing 12th (81-1).
Today’s javelin competitors include Abigail Quinn in 8-under girls and Cale Fenimore among 8-under boys.

The met concludes on Saturday with both Faulkner and Jaxson Smoak competing in the 10-year-old javelin throw and Samuel Quinn competing in the 9-year-old high jump.
