Pluskota captures doubles title at Evansville ITF event

Former Tennessee All-American and Northgate High tennis standout Natalie Pluskota and her partner Brooke Austin captured the a doubles championship on Saturday at the ITF 10K tournament in Evansville, Ind.

Pluskota and Austin needed three sets in the finals to beat Catherine Harrison and Mary Weatherbolt 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 in a marathon finish.

Pluskota and Austin knocked off the No. 2-seeds Madeleine Kobelt (USA) and Ayaka Okuna (Japan) in the first round, defeating them in a tiebreaker for the first set 7-6 (8) and rolling to an easy 6-0 win in the second set.

In the second round, they beat Ingrid Neel (USA) and Anastasia Nefedova (RUS) 6-1, 6-3 to move to the semifinals where played Trelsie Sadler (USA) and Caitlin Whoriskey (USA) and won 4-6, 6-1 [10-6].

It was Pluskota’s fourth doubles tournament victory on the ITF Tour and first since picking up a pair in 2012.

She also has five runner-up decisions since turning pro three years ago.

Her senior year at Tennessee, she made it to the NCAA doubles finals and finished as the runner up.

Pluskota began an $50,000 ITF tournament in Kentucky on Tuesday, losing in singles to Jennifer Elie 6-2, 6-0. She is partnering with Jacqueline Cako in the doubles event.

Pluskota’s two doubles titles in 2012 came with Cako as a partner.
