Firecracker 30, fireworks ahead tonight at Senoia Raceway

Stock-car racers, crew members and fans will celebrate the nation’s birthday tonight with the second annual Firecracker 30 taking place at Senoia Raceway’s 3/8-mile clay track located off Highway 16. Pit gates open tonight at 5 p.m., and grandstands at 6. Drivers take the track for hot laps beginning at 7:30 p.m., with racing set to begin around 8. 


Stock-car racers, crew members and fans will celebrate the nation's birthday tonight with the second annual Firecracker 30 taking place at Senoia Raceway's 3/8-mile clay track located off Highway 16.

The special race will feature competitors from three states battling for the hardware, honor and $1,000 top prize in the B Cadet division.

All other weekly divisions will also see action along with a nightcap of fireworks honoring our nation's birthday.

'Racing and the Independence Day holiday weekend have been synonymous for years,' said promoter Tim Moses. 'Last year we added to the tradition by adding the Firecracker 30 and it was one of the best events of the year. This year we have added the fireworks to the show.' Alabama driver Joseph Brown looks to defend his Firecracker 30 title after Marc Gooden was disqualified for being only a couple of pounds light at the scales. Gooden was back at the track two weeks ago preparing for a second run at the holiday special event.

'The Alabama guys are fast,' added Moses. 'But, the Georgia boys have been just as fast all season and Senoia Raceway is their home track. It is not going to be a cakewalk for anyone this weekend.'

How tough has it been? Current points leader Jason Miller of Jonesboro has not made it to victory lane while eight others have notched wins in the B Cadet division. LaGrange's David Osbahr leads that group with four victories, but he has not made it to the winner's circle since early June.

The B Cadets will qualify for their starting position by running two laps on the clock. This system is only used for the special Firecracker 30 event.

Fans will see a full schedule of racing action with competition in the Late Model, Hobby Mini Stock, Bomber and Modified Mini divisions. The night will conclude with the fireworks display over Turn 3 of the track.

Pit gates open tonight at 5 p.m., and grandstands at 6. Drivers take the track for hot laps beginning at 7:30 p.m., with racing set to begin around 8.

Ticket prices for grandstand admission are $12 and $5 for ages 6-12. Pit passes are $25 and $12 for ages 3-12.

Trackside parking is available on first-come, first-serve basis and includes access to the pit area.
