Joe Pope Field at Newnan High School will be among 28 host sites for the week-long Perfect Game World Wood Bat 15-Under National Baseball Championship.

The 184-team tournament includes entries from both Centerfield Baseball Academy in Newnan and Home Plate Baseball in Peachtree City, which will also host games at Thomas Charles Hannah Memorial Field, also known as 'The Chuck.'

The event includes lineups from 24 states split into 23 eight-team pools. Teams will play within respective divisions over six days with the top finisher advancing to the playoffs. The semifinals and finals will be held at Perfect Game Park South at Lake-Point in Emerson.

Joe Pope Field, which was awarded the Georgia Dugout Club's 6A Field of the Year honor for 2014, hosts two games today including one at 2 p.m. between the Home Plate Chili Dogs-Wesolowski team and the Game On Bulls out of Macon.

Home Plate's roster includes Heritage School players Kirby Arnall, Chase Evans and Jacob Smith in addition to athletes from East Coweta (Zack Bruce) and Northgate (Chris Chaffin) high schools.

The schedule in Newnan begins at 11 a.m., with Team Elite South out of Albany facing the Game On Bulls.

Centerfield's lineup includes players from East Coweta, Newnan and Northgate high school. At least four on the tournament roster play with the facility's 14-year-old team that made the top-12 in Perfect Game's East Cobb Invitational earlier this month and won a championship at the Grand Slam Memorial Day Baseball Beach Blast in Panama City, Fla.

The schedule for Centerfield opens today with a 2 p.m. game at the East Cobb Complesx against Indiana Bulls White. The pool also includes the Home Plate Chilidogs-Dyal lineup featuring five East Coweta athletes including varsity shortstop Devonte Brown and pitcher Mason Meyer as well as. Northgate High freshman Chase Bevil.

Centerfield and Home Plate-Dyal play on Sunday at 4:30 p.m., in a game set for North Cobb Christian in Kennesaw.

The Home Plate Chili Dogs-Black lineup, which includes East Coweta High sophomore Emilio Morales, opens today with an 11:30 a.m. game against the 6-4-3 DP Tigers at Etowah High School.

YOUTH BASEBALL ALL-STAR TEAMS BEGIN SCHEDULES AT SUB-STATE EVENTS: The summer All-Star season in USSSA play began last week with efforts that included a second-place finish by the NYAA Newnan All-Stars Cash team in the 8-under Coach Pitch Sub-State Championship held at Warren Holder Park in Locust Grove among a field of 13 teams.

One of three NYAA entries, the Cash lineup finished with a 6-2 record while losing its opening and closing game to eventual champion Tyrone All-Stars-Campbell, the latter in a slim 7-6 decision.

Despite losing in its opening game to the Tyrone Stars, the NYAA-Cash Stars staved off elimination with victories over Fairview (14-0), Senoia (20-7), West Walton (15-7), Fayette County (16-8) and Central Walton (13-5) out of the loser's bracket.

Team members include Camden Barnes, William Barnett, Emory Breyne, Samuel Calhoun, Logan Campbell, Eli Cash, Bennett Davis, James Drake, Caleb Herring, James Massey, Justin Privett, Preston Welsh and Gavin Youngblood.

At the USSSA 10-under All-Star Sub-State Tournament at Kiwanis Park in Fayetteville, The Newnan All-Stars Waddell lineup placed third with a 4-2 record in an event dominated by both entries from Tyrone.

Newnan reached the loser's bracket final with a 16-9 victory over Brooks before falling to eventual champions, Tyrone All-Stars-Challis.
