New faces find victory lane at season opener

Senoia Raceway opened its 2014 season Saturday with four drivers finding victory lane for the first time within their divisions.

LaGrange's Dusty Jones notched his first career win in the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Model division after capturing the rookie of the year title last season. Jones held off an early charge by Tod Darda before outrunning the defending division champion Glenn Morris to nab the late model laurels.

Joining Jones in the victory lane were first-time winners Robert Chandler in the Newnan Bonding B Cadets, James Stansel in the Senoia Drug Company Mini Stocks and Dustin Smith in the A-1 Hydraulics Bombers.

Dustin Smith of Senoia topped the Modified Mini while Clifton 'Hog Head' Moran took home his 56th feature win in the Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks.

'It was a cold opening night,' said fifth year promoter Tim Moses. 'But, the new drivers flexed their muscle. The veterans will have their hands full this season.'

This week, Senoia Raceway hosts its 4th Annual Spring Fling 40 for the Jodeco Auto Sales Late Model division.

The fastest cars competing weekly will be highlighted with a pair of 20-lap specials paying $1,000 to win each.

Defending Spring Fling champion Russ Ogletree is expected to be back to defend his title. The Newnan Bonding B Cadets, Summit Racing Equipment Hobby Stocks, Senoia Drug Company Mini Stocks, A-1 Hydraulics Bombers and Modified Mini will also be on the racing card.

The pit gates will open at 5 p.m., and grandstands at 6. The drivers will take the track for hot laps beginning at 7:30pm with racing set for 8.

Ticket prices remain $12 for regular grandstand admission and $6 for ages 6-12. Kids fiveand- under are admitted free. Pit passes are $25 or $12 for ages 3-12.
