Lady Hawks keep pace with win over Atlanta Girls

KENNESAW — The Heritage School girls soccer team made the most of Tuesday’s vicious winds, scoring three times with it at its back in the first half and then withstanding it for the final 40 minutes in a key 3-1 Region 1-AAA victory over Atlanta Girls School in a match played at Atlanta Silverbacks Stadium.

Sara Brillanti scored twice and teammate Calista Eckert added a goal and an assist before halftime as the Lady Hawks handed Atlanta Girls its first region loss.

“It was the windiest and coldest game I can remember,” said longtime Lady Hawks head coach Ron Rineer. “The weather definitely had a factor. We had the wind the first half and got up. It was a very physical and hard fought game. It was a big region win for us.”

Heritage equally kept pace with 1-AAA’s only remaining undefeated team Holy Spirit while improving its records to 5-2 overall and 5-1 in the region.

The Lady Hawks host both Atlanta Girls (5-2. 5-1) and Holy Spirit (5-1, 4-0) next week. Up first, however, is a home game with The Weber School on Thursday.

Janie Eckert also had an assist in Tuesday’s win, which came a day after a 6-0 victory over The Weber School.

On Monday, the Lady Hawks built a 4-0 halftime lead while picking up goals from five players.

Calista Eckert scored twice and Kate Everett, Ansley Dieckmann, Sara Brillanti and Gina Brillanti also had goals.

Calista Eckert, Jaina Eckert, Everett and Sullivan Wilkins each added assists in Monday’s win.
