Indians bust out bats in 10-0 win over Troup

Shut out in its previous outing on the diamond, East Coweta's bats took out any frustrations against Troup County on Friday in a 10-0 road victory in non-region play.

The Indians pounded out 10 hits and put together a sevenrun rally in the second to quickly take control against the Tigers, who equally hurt their own cause by committing five errors.

Stephen Cruver and Bryce Gemmel each had two hits in the victory while among seven players that drove in runs.

On the mound, senior pitcher Austin Bellamy was equally solid in six shutout innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out three in a victory.

Thomas Leone fired an inning of shutout relief for East Coweta, allowing one hit and striking out a batter.

Senior leadoff hitter Cam Smith set the tone from the second pitch of the game, quickly sending a single to left. Despite being stranded at second, the Indian outfielder made his second plate appearance during an extended rally the following inning off five hits, the last four of which coming with two outs.

Cory Holloway, Cruver, Matthew Meyer and Gemmel all had run-scoring hits in the rally with Holloway's double igniting a seven-run surge.

Following a walk to Smith, Cruver pushed two runs across with a single to center for a 3-0 lead and was just as quickly on the move. Meyer beat out an infield single that scored Smith before Gemmel cleared the bases with an RBI triple that doubled the lead to 6-0.

Catcher Austin Jones capped off the rally with a run-scoring single through the left side of the infield for a 7-0 lead.

That was plenty for Bellamy, who worked out of jams in five of his six innings, only once allowing a runner to reach third. The Tigers best chance to score came in the third when back-to-back two out singles by Bo Halcomb and Jonathan Foster put runners on the corners. But a groundout to shortstop ended the threat.

In all, Troup left seven runners stranded in the loss.

Nick Pippin also had an RBI in the win. East Coweta finished with 10 hits, with Makenzie Martin and Austin Russell contributing to the total.

East Coweta returns to play on Tuesday with a trip to Sandy Creek in a non-region game.
