Vikings drop 3-1 loss to Northside-Columbus on road

The Northgate baseball team dropped to 1-3 with a non-region 3-1 loss on the road to Northside-Columbus on Monday.

Northside scored twice in the second and once in the third to take control of the game against the Vikings.

The Vikings added their only run of the game in the top of the fourth when Jordan Schmits reached and scored the unearned run for Northgate, but that’s all the offensive damage they could do.

Schmits, Connor Wilson, Blake Helton and Buddy Green each added singles for the Vikings on a day three Northside pitchers accounted for eight strikeouts.

Glavine Bledsoe got the win and struck out four. Michael Rossi and Drew Haywood each struck out two.

Blake Whitney started the game for the Vikings and took the loss, giving up eight hits and striking out two in five innings. Chase Allen also pitched an inning and struck out a batter.

Cameron Hopkins led the Northside hit parade with 2-for-3 performance with and RBI. Aaron Newnan also drove in a run en route to the win.
