County teams open season with victories

The Northgate Lady Vikings began defense of their Class AAAAA soccer title Friday with a 1-0 victory on the road at Union Grove.

Katie Mitchell scored the only goal of the contest on an assist from Lilly Barron.

Mattea Lewis had several key saves in goal for the Lady Vikings.

Four freshman stepped up big in their varsity debuts with Bailey Swindell, Kylie Doster, Caroline Nelson and Gabby Lotter helping the team to the win.

EAST COWETA SWEEPS LAGRANGE: Respective East Coweta soccer lineups dominated LaGrange at Callaway Stadium in 2014 season openers.

The Lady Indians dominated the Lady Grangers in a 10-0 victory while receiving multi-goal efforts from seniors Ren Waters, Nikki Brandley and junior Lynnsey Danford.

Waters had three goals and two assists while Brandley added four points on two goals and two assists.

Danford also had two goals in the victory.

The Lady Indians also picked up two assists from senior Anna Lauzon in addition to goals from Morgan Haase, Abby Pepper and S.K. Palmer. Haley Robers also had an assist in the win.

East Coweta’s boys defeated LaGrange 3-1 to open the season behind goals from Cole Antley, Zac Slaton and Todd Davis.

Chandler Costlow had two assists in his varsity debut with the Indians.
