Smokey Road sweeps ECMS teams

Smokey Road Middle School basketball teams swept games at East Coweta Middle on Thursday behind top-scoring efforts from Janaya Strickland and Jaylin Williams.

Strickland's eight points led a balanced lineup for Smokey Road's girls in a 27-20 victory over the Lady Indians, as the Lady Wildcats stormed out to a 12-3 lead after one quarter.

Williams, meanwhile, posted a team-high 16 while leading seven scorers for Smokey Road's boys in a 38-27 win against East Coweta to keep the Wildcats undefeated at 3-0 on the early season.

Recapping Thursday's Games BOYS SMOKEY ROAD 38, EAST COWETA 27: While Jaylin Williams' 16 points led the way, the Wildcats (3-0) also received eight points from Jarrell Rosser as well as four each from teammates Travis Johnson and Dominique Addie. Jarod Rosser, Hunter Moore and Tay Watson each had two points apiece for Smokey Road.

GIRLS ARNALL 17, EVANS 15: At Evans, the Lady Knights pushed their undefeated record to 3-0 in a back-andforth defensive struggle where Arnall trailed 8-7 at halftime before tying the game at 13-13 heading into the final period.

Chasidhe Godfrey had 10 of Arnall's 17 points in the win while teammate JeffraNiquia Parson added three.

Evans was led by Jekeria Strickland's seven points while Janyah Stargell added four in the loss for the Lady Cougars.

Smokey Road 27, East Coweta 20: Smokey Road's Janaya Strickland and East Coweta's Blasia Childs each led respective teams with eight points, but it was the Lady Wildcats' early outburst that set the tone with a 12-3 lead after one quarter.

The Lady Indians closed to within a 15-8 deficit at halftime and trailed 21-16 after three quarters, but Smokey Road stayed the course with help from seven points from Maxy Gates and five apiece from teammates Sha Mia Dorsey and Miranda Hill.

Meosha Martin added six points for East Coweta (0-3) while Cylexus Fowler and Bahsia Ennaemba had three and two, respectively, in the loss.
