Heritage School teams sweep in final day of event

Host Heritage School basketball lineups pulled off a sweep against lineups from Heritage Christian to close its annual Christmas Tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks completed the two-day event undefeated, continuing to smother opponents with their defensive play in a 43-19 victory. Heritage School held the Lady Crusaders to single-digit outputs in all four quarters while building a 26-11 lead at halftime in a game where the hosts put together 25 steals.

Kara Groover posted a team-high 20 points in an impressive outing and the Lady Hawks put the game away for good with a 13-3 run in the third quarter.

Groover went 8-for-11 from the field and connected on her only 3-point attempt while adding team highs among steals (7) and rebounds (5) in the victory.

Lillie Smith added nine points for the Lady Hawks in the win.

Meanwhile, one night after failing to pull off a second-half comeback in its game against Brentwood School, The Heritage School's boys got back into the win column with a 84-67 win over Heritage Christian.

The Hawks led from start to finish, building a 43-29 victory at the end of the first half.

Three players finished in double figures for the Hawks, including Glavin Groover, who led with 22 points. Groover finished the day shooting 7-for-11 from the field, including 5 of 8 attempts from behind the 3-point line.

Luke Smith tossed in 16 points and Cole Jones added 10.

In all, Heritage was hot from long distance, connecting on 10 of its 24 shots from 3-point territory and also converted 16 of 31 free throw attempts to close out its tournament with the win.

Heritage also pulled down 28 rebounds, including 18 on defense.

Both Trinity Christian teams were also in action on Saturday in games against Brentwood School. Results were unavailable at deadline.
