Northgate 4th at Area 4-AAAAA tournament

FAYETTEVILLE - Northgate's volleyball team is headed back to the GHSA State Tournament again following a fourth-place finish at Saturday's Area 4-AAAAA tournament at Whitewater.

The Lady Vikings have made it to the state tournament seven of the last eight years.

Northgate dropped both of its tournament games to Whitewater, the first coming late Thursday night to put the Lady Vikings in the loser's bracket.

The Lady Vikings bounced back to beat Mt. Zion (25-15, 25-8) and Union Grove (25-18, 25-18) on Saturday before falling to the Lady Wildcats (25-19, 25-19).

Randee Harvel fini shed Saturday 's th ree ma tches wit h 18 k i l l s . Michella Crooks finished the game with seven blocks. Julie Whiddon led the way with 28 assists.

Erin Valentine finished with 25 digs.

Northgate will open on the road at either Lithia Springs or Allatoona to open the firstround of the Class AAAAA tournament.

'I told the girls I am proud of them for the way that fought,' Northgate head coach Matt Trucks said.
