Unbeaten, No. 1 Trinity rolls into October

Trinity Christian's volleyball team has continued to pick up steam heading into the final month of the season and its quest for a third consecutive GISA State Volleyball Championship.

The Lady Lions capped off a successful September with four region victories over Calvary Christian (25-19, 25-9, 20-25, 25-7), Stratford Academy (25-7, 25-19, 25-10), The Heritage School (25-14, 25-19, 25-19) and Young Americans (25-14, 25-17, 25-16).

'We are really starting to hit our stride,' said Trinity coach Joe Camp, whose team improved its unbeaten record 22-0 and 6-0 in Region 2-AAA while remaining No. 1 in GISA state rankings. 'I couldn't be happier with how we are playing.'

Tr inity cont inues region play on Friday at Stratford Academy with two weeks left in the regular season. The GISA tournament will be held Oct. 25 at No. 2 stateranked Augusta Prep.

Over the team's latest four victories, the Lions used a strong attack, aggressive serving and pinpoint defense to put together impressive team numbers. They included a .277 kill-percentage, just under 5 aces per set at 93-percent efficiency, as well as 14 digs and 1.8 blocks per game.

'Those are great numbers at any level,' Camp added. 'I'm especially encouraged by the play of our middle blockers.'

They included efforts from Frankie Hutcheson (20 kills, .613 percentage) and Chasey Mitchell (21 kills, .386 percentage) over the span.

'When you are getting that kind of production out of the middle, it really takes the pressure off everyone else,' Camp said. 'We continue to be very balanced in our attack.'

Setter Jordan Jones put together 100 assists and 11 aces during the stretch of four victories while Ashley Caldwell added 12 aces and 23 digs. Kelsey Richards and Alex Huber posted 39 and 35 digs, respectively to lead the defense. Cheyenne Hanes paced the offense with 34 kills and Huber had 35.
