Lady Vikings roll to win
The Northgate Lady Vikings began pounding out base hits almost from the time they stepped off the bus in Forest Park Tuesday afternoon.
An offensive explosion resulted in a 12-0 victory over the Lady Panthers in a game called after four innings.
With the win, Northgate improved its record to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in Region 4-AAAAA play.
The Lady Vikings have won 13 games in a row, including eight by shutout.
Brenna Skalski got a rare pitching performance en route the victory, going three innings and striking out four.
Northgate broke the game open with a 10-run top of the second inning.
Offensively, Kyra Long went 2-for-3 with three RBIs to pace the offense.
McKenzie McCloud picked up two hits and scored three runs for the Lady Vikings Lauren DeLoach added an RBI, and Reagan Kinish and Jessica Cochran drove in two runs each,.
Northgate steps out of region competition today for a contest at Newnan.
East Coweta holds off Pike County: One day after falling to Heard County 3-1, the Lady Indians returned to the softball diamond with an 8-6 victory over Pike County.
After building an 8-0 lead, the Lady Indians appeared to be in command of the game before surrendering six runs in the top of the sixth.
Morgan Goree pitched four innings, striking out five, and Kaylin Wall added one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings.
The Indians scored three runs in the first and three in the second and added a single run in the third to take control of the game.
Lauren Liebe set the tone for the Lady Indians with an RBI double.
The Lady Indians also benefitted from run-scoring hits from Katey Lynch and Shemiah Sanchez, both of whom finished with two RBIs.
Leadoff hitter Kia Smith and Reba Jones also drove in runs for East Coweta in the victory.
