Lady Cougars split tourney games

The Newnan Lady Cougars softball team went 1-1 Friday at the Carrollton Invitational, beating South Paudling 4-3 and falling to Alltona 3-2.

Newnan’s victory against South Paulding was decided in the international tiebreaker with the Lady Cougars scoring once in the eighth.

Christy Meadows scored the go-ahead run in the extra inning, coming home on an error, and the Lady Cougars were able to hold South Paulding off the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.

Tori Loveless pitched out of some tight spots for the Lady Cougars, but held, giving up seven hits and striking out three.

Only two of Newnan’s runs were earned, but Lauren Ferguson had a solid day at the plate with a home run.

Against Alltoona, Newnan scored one run in the first and one in the sixth to account for its only runs.

Masen Willard and Leslie Davis each went 2-for-3 for the Lady Cougars in the loss. Lindsey Stewart at the Lady Cougars’ only RBI.
