East Coweta, Newnan win non-region games

Playing with heavy hearts, the East Coweta Lady Indians returned to their home softball field Wednesday night and defeated visiting Whitewater 5-2.

It was the first game for the Lady Indians since the passing of fellow East Coweta student Madeline McTier, who died Tuesday following her battle with a cancerous brain tumor.

The Lady Indians picked up a solid pitching performance from Morgan Goree, who struck out five en route to the win.

Shemiah Sanchez, Kia Smith, Gracelyn Newmon and Haley Baswell all had RBIs in the contest.

Mekhia Freeman finished with two hits. Katie Lynch added one.

With the non-region win, East Coweta improved to 8-4.

Newnan 12, Pike 0: The Newnan Lady Cougars softball team improved its record to 6-3 overall with a 12-0 victory over Pike County in a game called after four innings.

Mary Beth Arnall connected on a two-run homer and Arden Jobe hit a solo shot for the Lady Cougars in the fourth as part of the team's six-run explosion.

Newnan out hit Pike County 9-2 in the game.

The Lady Cougars also scored six runs in the bottom of the second to open the scoring.

Tori Loveless went the distance for the Lady Cougars, pitching all four innings en route to the win.

Leadoff hitter Shania Colton finished with three RBIs and Jobe finished with two.

Maysen Willard, Chaycie Goggins, Lindsey Stewart, and Loveless each had RBIs to help pace the team's victory.
