Heritage School teams end August on a roll

The Heritage School's volleyball and softball teams may not have wanted to see August come to an end so quickly after rolling through the final week of the month.

The Lady Hawks softball team, led by head coach Ron Groover, put together three wins last week while outscoring LaGrange Academy, Mount de Sales and Griffin Christian by a combined margin of 29-5. Two of the victories, a 13-3 win over LaGrange on Monday and a 12-0 shutout at Griffin Christian on Thursday, lasted five innings or less.

In between, Heritage earned a 4-2 victory over GISA Region 2-AAA opponent Mount de Sales at home while led by Autumn Rochester's eight strikeout effort. Rochester allowed two runs on five hits.

Lady Hawks shortstop Kara Groover, on a torrid pace for the three victories, went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI and 5 stolen bases against Mount de Sales.

Rochester opened the week with a 13-strikeout performance against LaGrange in a game where Groover went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases. The Heritage pitcher finished the team's three victories with a no-hit shutout of Griffin that lasted four innings. Groover went 3-for-3 with an inside-thepark homer and 2 RBIs.

The team returns to action on Thursday at Loganville with a doubleheader.

The Lady Hawks volleyball team, in its second varsity season, improved its record to 4-2 this week, highlighted by a Region 2-AAA victory over Mount de Sales last Monday at home.

Heritage entered last week on a three-game winning streak following victories over Griffin Christian (25-16, 25-16, 25-11), Dominion Christian (25-9, 21-25, 25-11) and Shiloh Hills (25-14, 25-19) before sweeping Mount de Sales 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.

Against Mount de Sales, setter Hallie Hunt finished with 26 assists and had five digs and five kills. Hailey Pierce led the Lady Hawks offense with eight kills with seven digs and two aces. Karlie Groover's nine digs led the defensive effort to go with five kills and two aces while Zofia Powell paced the win with four kills and six digs.

The Lady Hawks dropped a tri-match against 1-AAA opponents Weber School and Loganville Christian on Thursday. Heritage took Weber the full five games in a 25-23, 18-25, 20-25, 25-17, 13-15 loss.
