Coggins' three HRs lift Newnan in region opener

The next time Douglas County's softball team faces Newnan, they may want to pitch around Chaycie Goggins.

Goggins delivered home runs in each of her three at bats to help the Lady Cougars roll to a 14-0 victory at home during Thursday's Region 3-AAAAAA opener in a game that lasted just four innings.

The outburst capped off a two-day barrage from Newnan, which outscored opponents a combined 26-0 while belting six homers.

Newnan improved to 4-3 overall while starting the region schedule at 1-0 heading into next Thursday's showdown with county rival East Coweta in Sharpsburg.

Against Douglas County, Goggins homered in the second, third and fourth innings en route to a five RBI performance as Newnan scored at least three runs in all four of its at bats.

Pitchers Tori Loveless and Emily Allen shared a one-hit effort on the mound for the Lady Cougars, combining for five strikeouts.

In addition to Coggins' effort, Newnan also received two-hit performances from Masen Willard and Lauren Ferguson. Arden Jobe added 2 RBIs in the win.

Ferguson, Loveless and M.B. Arnell also added RBIs.
