Peace helps push Northgate past Carrolton

The Northgate softball team evened its record to 2-2 on Saturday in the Georgia Dugout Club Tournament following a 5-2 victory over co-tournament host Carrollton.

Senior McKenzie Peace earned the victory on the mound and added a home run while finishing with two RBIs against the Lady Trojans, who had defeated Newnan 9-1 on Wednesday.

Peace also struck out seven batters in the victory.

Northgate senior teammate Ebonee Echols also drove in two runs, and had a double.

Northgate dropped the first game of the tournament 2-1 to Alexander on Thurday, and also lost 4-1 to McIntosh, a team they will see again later this year in games that count toward the Region 4-AAAAA standings.

After dropping season opener, the Lady Vikings got back on track with a 9-0 win over county foe Newnan and a 5-2 victory on Saturday over Carrollton.

In Friday's victory over the Lady Vikings outhit the Lady Cougars 11-4.

Peace and Haley Flood shared the pitching duties against Newnan, with Flood getting the start and Peace wrapping up the victory with three strikeouts in the final inning.

Jessica Houk went 2-for-2 with two RBIs to pace the offense.

The Lady Vikings have a rematch against Newnan at home on Monday, and then open the Region 4-AAAAA schedule at home Tuesday against defending state champion Union Grove.
