Georgia Southern senior Ashley Riggs, left, recently was named a STUNT All-American by USA Cheer.

Sharpsburg student Ashley Riggs, a member of the All-Girl Georgia Southern Cheerleaders, was recently named by USA Cheer as a First Team STUNT All-American.

Riggs, a senior who was selected with sophomore teammate Katherine Daniel, at right, was captain of Georgia Southern’s STUNT team. Among her responsibilities were the selection of personnel and teaching the STUNT routines. STUNT is an emerging NCAA competitive team sport derived from traditional cheerleading and focuses on technical and athletic components of cheer.

Riggs helped lead the team to the national semifinals against Louisville following victories over Georgia and Florida State. The early education major has cheered at over 90 football and basketball games at the schools. As a member of the All-Girl team, Riggs won NCA National Championships in 2011 and 2012 at the school.
