Khan, Crimes earn titles at 1-AAA tournament

Lineups representing The Heritage School dominated Thursday’s Region 1-AAA tennis tournament at the Peachtree City Tennis Center to earn the school’s 10th consecutive trip to the GISA state team championships.

The Hawks earned a 1-AAA title led by a singles championship from Hamza Khan and a first-place doubles effort by Will Farr and Lawson Harris.

Khan won the singles title with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over teammate Chris Truong, who placed second and also advanced to the GISA individual state tournament.

In all, Heritage will send six boys players and three from its girls team to the individual state event.

The GISA team tournament will be held April 29 at the Newman Tennis Center in Augusta while the individual tournament will follow in Macon on May 1-2.

Tate Crimes added a Region 1-AAA girls singles championship for the Lady Hawks with a 6-2, 6-3 decision.

A boys doubles team of Will Farr and Lawson Harris also captured a 1-AAA championship with a 6-4, 6-2 effort while girls teammates Abbie Farr and Madison Crymes placed second.

Also placing in the top three to qualify for state among boys were a doubles team of Anish Nalla and Philip Turner. The duo held on for a 6-7, 6-2, 10-7 victory in a tiebreaker.
