Northgate downs Villa Rica

by Staff Reports

Northgate's girls soccer team continued to prepare for the upcoming Class AAAAA state playoffs by defeating Villa Rica 4-1 on the road on Thursday.

The Lady Vikings improved to 11-3 overall heading into their regular season finale tonight against Area 4-AAAAA foe Mundy's Mill. The team has already clinched a state playoff spot, however, with a 7-2 record within the division.

Katie Mitchell scored twice for Northgate and Micayla Crenshaw and Lily Barron added goals in Thursday's victory.

HERITAGE SCHOOL GIRLS DROP FIRST GAME

The Lady Hawks lost their first game of the season on Thursday, losing 2-0 to Holy Spirit in their Region 1-AAA finale having already wrapped up a region title and a No. 1 seed in the upcoming Class AAA playoffs.

"We left a lot of chances. Had one go off the post," said Heritage School coach Ron Rineer. "I told the girls if you're to lose a game this year, lose this one. We found some chinks in the armor and we'll go back and work on those things before next week's game."

The Lady Hawks will open the Class AAA playoffs at home on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against the No. 4 seed from 3-AAA, likely to be Calvary Christian.

Heritage School will keep home-field advantage throughout the state finals while coming off last year's trip to the Class AA Final Four.

"I told them we've got to treat this like a four-game season," Rineer said.
