Newnan golf team wins Lion Invitational

Newnan High’s golf team won Saturday’s ninth annual Lion Invitational Tournament hosted by Central-Carroll at Oak Mountain Golf Course. Newnan’s golf team captured Saturday’s ninth annual Lion Invitational Tournament hosted by Central-Carroll at Oak Mountain Golf Course.

Carson Vaughn and Jordan Henry each shot a 3-over 75 to share low medalist honors while leading the Cougars to a team score of 310.

John Taylor and Max Matistic both posted rounds of 80 to complete the team scoring. Tyler Cook added an 85 for Newnan.

GIRLS LACROSSE

LADY COUGARS RALLY FALL SHORT: Before heading into Spring Break, Newnan’s girls lacrosse team battled Grayson in a 11-6 loss that score the Lady Cougars outscore the Lady Rams 4-1 in the final 14:44 of play before running out of time.

Down 6-0 after the opening 10 minutes of play, Newnan picked up two goals from Savannah Ohliger and one each from Sydney Garmany and Jessica Monroe to cut into a 9-2 deficit in the closing 15 minutes.

Ohliger opened the Lady Cougar scoring at the 9:10 mark of the first half while finishing with a hat trick. Gaby Busby pulled Newnan to within a seven-goal deficit at the break with 1:14 left until halftime.

Garmany added five groundballs defensively and Morgan Gardner and Hope Overton combined for six saves.
