Newnan teams hold off Northgate at NCC

The Newnan golf teams swept Northgate in action Thursday at Newnan Country Club.

The Newnan’s boys defeated Northgate by 10 shots, while the girls won by a stroke.

The Cougars were led by Carson Vaughn, Jordan Henry, and Max Matistic.

After coming off of a 3rd-place finish at the Troup Shootout yesterday in which Kristyna Jirikova finished third overall, the girl’s played another solid match.

The Lady Cougars were led by Kristyna Jirikova, Haley Luna, and Lauren Starnes. Jirikova is a sophomore foreign exchange student from the Czech Republic.

After having to play around the weather to begin the season, the boy’s golf team opened the 2013 campaign recently, with a one-stroke win against the Carrollton Trojans at Newnan Country Club.

The Lady Cougars’ team played a competitive match against Carrollton, falling by a couple of strokes.

Both Newnan teams lost to Spalding County by 3 strokes on Tuesday at Orchard Hills Golf Course.

On Saturday, the Newnan’s boys program will host the second annual Cougar Invitational presented by County Financial at Orchard Hills. The boys tournament will feature teams from East Coweta, Ringgold, Ola, Pike, Carrollton, Whitefield Academy, McIntosh and Strong Rock.

TRINITY CHRISTIAN STILL UNDEFEATED: The Trinity Christian School golf team improved to 2-0 with a 160-234 victory over Loganville Christian.

Trinity Christian was led by Hudson Huber who shot a 37. Junior Luke Hammock added a 39, including an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole at Cedar Lake Golf Cub in Loganville.

Tyler Anderson and Connor Adams each shot a 42. Trinity Christian will be in action on Monday when they travel to Augusta to play in the Augusta Invitational.
