The Heritage School’s third-fifth grade lower school football team will try to build on last week’s 20-8 victory over Covenent Christian when it hosts Strong Rock on Thursday.
The Hawks jumped out to a 20-0 lead last week, with Wright Arnall’s 10-yard touchdown run the only scoring of the first half. Heritage ended the second quarter parked inside the 4-yard-line when time ran out.
Three plays after Covenant recovered an onsides kick to start the third quarter, the Hawks defense got the ball back on a fumble recovery to set up a 10-yard touchdown pass from Gridley Pendergrast to Branch Burns. A two-point run by Arnall pushed the Heritage lead to 14-0.
Henry Arnall, Jacob Rochester, Jack Stanley, Hayes Johnston and Robert Johnston were dominant up front on the offensive line for Heritage’s offense.
The Hawks defense, meanwhile, came up big again when lineman Charlie Minor intercepted a pass at midfield and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown to close the scoring. Patrick Griffies also added an interception for Heritage, while Thomas Crymes and Jake Martin led the team in tackles.
