Prep Roundup: Cougars even season series with Vikings in playoff at Canongate I

Newnan and Northgate’s golf teams renewed a heated rivalry this spring for the fourth and final time before lineups head to respective region tournaments next week as prohibitive favorites to reach GHSA state tournaments.
Tuesday’s fourth meeting – played at Canongate I – ended in a draw at 156 apiece before Newnan captured the win in a one-hole playoff to even the season series at 2 apiece. The Cougars were led by an even nine-hole round of 36 from senior Trevor Smith and a 2-over 38 from sophomore Carson Vaughn.
The Vikings won this year’s county tournament while posting two wins over the Cougars this year.
Northgate wraps up its regular season schedule with matches against Region 3-AAAA rivals today at Whitewater Creek against Starr’s Mill and Thursday at hom against McIntosh. The 3-AAAA tournament will be held at Raintree Golf Club in Thomaston on Tuesday.
Newnan and East Coweta prepare for the Region 2-AAAAA tournament next Tuesday at The Oaks in Covington with a match today at Newnan Country Club.
The Georgia High School Association will hold all five state tournaments for boys and girls in Augusta this year for the first time on May 7 at 10 courses around the area.

SOCCER – East Coweta splits with Brookwood
The East Coweta soccer teams split non-region games Tuesday night against Brookwood.
East Coweta’s boys won 3-2 on penalty kicks, while the girls lost 2-1.
The boys improved to 14-2, while the girls lost for the second game in a row and fell to 13-3.
East Coweta plays a doubleheader at home against Collins Hill on Friday.
