Newnan and Northgate’s golf teams renewed a heated rivalry this spring for the fourth and final time before lineups head to respective region tournaments next week as prohibitive favorites to reach GHSA state tournaments.
Tuesday’s fourth meeting – played at Canongate I – ended in a draw at 156 apiece before Newnan captured the win in a one-hole playoff to even the season series at 2 apiece. The Cougars were led by an even nine-hole round of 36 from senior Trevor Smith and a 2-over 38 from sophomore Carson Vaughn.
Both teams returned to No. 9 at Canongate for a one-hold playoff. All four of Northgate’s players bogeyed while Newnan made par-4s to seal the win.
