Pastor's Corner Response: Are Mormons Christians?

By GEORGE R. PARKER, President, Fayetteville Georgia Stake The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I have read with interest the article in the Pastor's Corner dated Feb. 18, and as a leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in this area would like to clarify a few points of doctrine. • God the Father. We believe that God the Father is the supreme ruler of the universe. There are no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3). All things are subject unto Him. He is the father of the spirits of all mankind. We are created in His image (Genesis 1:26). We are his children (Psalms 82:6). As his children we have the ultimate potential to become like him (Romans 8:17). He has a glorified, perfected body of flesh and bone (see Acts 7:56). Please visit the following links for more scriptures on this subject www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/god-body-of-corporeal-nature?lang=eng and http://www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/man-potential-to-become-like-heavenly-father?lang=eng&letter=m .
• Jesus Christ the Son. We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten of the Father in the flesh. (I John 4:9). Jesus Christ is the creator (Genesis 1:26; Ephesians 3:9). He is the Savior and Redeemer of all mankind (Luke 1:47; Acts 4:12) www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/jesus-christ-savior?lang=eng . Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God -- www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/jesus-christ-divine-sonship?lang=eng . The following verses from the Book of Mormon illustrate our faith in Jesus Christ: "Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning." (3 Nephi 11:10-11) • The Holy Ghost. We believe that the Holy Ghost is the testator of truth. He is the comforter and bringer of peace. He is a personage of spirit. The Holy Ghost is the source of a person's testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ -- www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/holy-ghost?lang=eng&letter=h) . • The Godhead. The Godhead consists of God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The members of the Godhead are three separate and distinct beings which have one purpose and direction. The Godhead is totally unified in their purpose to bring about the immortality and eternal life of man -- www.lds.org/scriptures/tg/godhead?lang=eng&letter=g . All who wish to learn more of the doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are invited to visit www.mormon.org or speak to a friend who is a member of the Church. There are over 3,000 of us in this area and tens of thousands in the greater Atlanta metro area. Your friend can introduce you to the missionaries who are authorized to teach the doctrine of the church. As one of His authorized representatives I solemnly bear witness that Jesus Christ lives. He is my Savior, my redeemer, and my very best friend. He is the only way through which salvation comes. He is the only begotten Son of our Eternal Father in Heaven. He is full of grace, truth and light. He is perfectly merciful, perfectly kind, and perfectly just. I bear witness that he took upon himself the pains, the grief, and the sufferings of all mankind. I bear witness that through His atonement all mankind may be healed through repentance and acceptance of Him as the very Christ the anointed one. I love Him with my whole heart and soul. I bear witness that Jesus Christ directs His church through his living apostles today. Yes, I am a Christian!
