Parenting class offering with VBS in Peachtree City

By W. WINSTON SKINNER winston@newnan.com A Peachtree City church is offering parents a chance to improve their parenting skills while their children take part in a summer tradition -- Vacation Bible School. Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church will be offering "Crocodile Dock" Vacation Bible School for children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade from Monday-Friday. Hours for VBS will be from 9 a.m.-noon.
There is no cost, and registration can be handled online at www.coslutheran.org. A parenting class -- held in conjunction with VBS is new this year. The class will be offered Monday-Thursday from 9-10:30 a.m. Parents can drop off their children and stay for Dr. Kevin Leman's parenting series, "Have a New Kid by Friday: How to Change Your Child's Attitude, Behavior in Character in Five Days." The parenting workshop is also free, and light refreshments will be provided. A large number of churches have already held Vacation Bible School. With school classes starting in early August, there has been a trend to hold VBS earlier in the summer break. Central Baptist Church's VBS included an opening assembly in the sanctuary each day. An offering was received for the children's ministry of Fellowship Baptist Church, Central's sister church in Cuba. The children gave $389.52. Newnan Presbyterian Church had great attendance for VBS -- about 220 pupils daily. A major focus at NPC was on giving. Fifth and sixth graders spent time at the Coweta Community Food Pantry -- shelving food and learning about the local ministry of the food pantry and One Roof Ecumenical Outreach. Newnan Presbyterian's children also brought an offering -- $966.52 -- for Camp Glisson at Dahlonega.
