Black pastors call for rally on immigration
Leading black clergy from the Atlanta area gathered at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Atlanta recently for a rally.
At the rally, speakers called for a stop in the deportation of undocumented workers and residents of Georgia. The group prepared a letter to the head of ICE expressing concerns regarding people of African descent who desire to become American citizens.
The rally was held April 5. Participants included Dr. Richard Cobble, president, Concerned Black Clergy; Dr. Gerald Durley, pastor, Providence Baptist Church; Timothy McDonald, pastor, First Iconium Baptist Church; Dr. Leland Jones, pastor, Greater New Light Baptist Church; Albert Love, pastor, Boatrock Community Baptist Church; Elder Ralph Peay; and Joe Beasley, Rainbow Push.
The event was held in coordination with the national "Resurrection of Hope -- Day of Action for Immigration Reform" called by African American Ministers In Action, a program of People For the American Way.
