Candler confers divinity degree on Thompson

Ralph L. Thompson Jr. of Newnan has received a master of divinity degree from Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

Thompson was awarded the degree during commencement exercises in Atlanta on May 13. He attended Morehouse College in Atlanta and graduated from the University of Phoenix in 2010 with a bachelor in business management.

Thompson is a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Newnan. During his time at Candler, Thompson received the Ida Baugh Scholarship and made the Dean’s List.

After graduation, Thompson will continue to serve as local pastor of Keeney Memorial United Methodist Church in West Point, Ga. He is seeking ordination as an elder in the United Methodist Church.

Thompson also plans to pursue post graduate doctoral studies at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.
