Youth Sunday held at Central Baptist Church
by Staff Reports
Central Baptist Church held Youth Sunday on April 14.
Worship leaders for both services were John Robuck, a Newnan High School senior; Evan McLoughlin, senior at the McCallie School; and Thomas Sumner, NHS senior. At the 8:45 a.m. service, soloists were Blaire Morgan and Amelia Rivers.
At the 10:55 a.m. service, Caroline and Megan Headley presented a duet, and Catherine and Mary Douglass Hallman performed a violin duet. Morgan also sang at that service, and Cole Beckwith Rountree was pianist for both services.
April 19-21 was Composer Weekend with the church’s chancel choir.
A dinner for choir members was held April 19, and there was a rehearsal -- at which the choir practiced four anthems -- followed by lunch and fellowship on April 20.
The April 20 meal was catered by Central Baptist’s youth Pig-on-a-Mission project.
There was a concert during the 10:55 a.m. service on April 21. The guest composer was Dan Forrest, a pianist-composer whose music has been performed in the United States and abroad. His work has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center.
His choral works, both sacred and secular, have received numerous awards.
Forrest holds a doctoral degree in composition from the University of Kansas and a master’s in piano performance. Formerly a professor of music, he now serves as associate editor at Beckenhorst Press.
Forrest also keeps a full schedule of commissions, workshops and residencies.
