Ministry Fair highlights opportunities in parish
St. George Catholic Church recently held an event that showcased the ministries available through the parish.
The Time, Talent and Treasure Fair is held annually at St. George's. The most recent fair was an overwhelming success - with more than 40 ministries participating in the after-Mass exhibition of various stewardship opportunities.
Colorful exhibits - complete with descriptions of each ministry and its purpose - were displayed. There also were sign-up sheets available for parishioners to examine and consider.
The church hall was abuzz with leaders and members from culinary arts, the music ministry, ushers, eucharistic ministers, altar servers, the Women's Guild, the preschool, the nursery, the hospitality ministry, the grief ministry, youth program, parish communications, the food pantry, meals for the sick and Mercy Meals.
The pro-life ministry of the church was highlighted.
Other groups with displays included the Knights of Columbus, the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Legion of Mary, Cursillo and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.
Innovation in design and nice give-aways brought many parishioners to the more popular tables. Juan Morales shared his musical talents at the Spanish Community Music Ministry display. Benjamin Mancia signed up for the Elijah Cup Ministry, a ministry of prayer for vocations to the clerical and religious life.
After one of the weekend Masses, a blessed chalice is given to an individual or family to be placed in their home to remind them to pray for vocations every day that week.
The chalice is returned to St. George Parish before the next Saturday Vigil Mass.
The ministry fair is held over two days - Sept. 7-8.
