October car show to benefit Alvarado family

On Oct. 19, Bugs4Christ Inc. and Georgia Dubs will be presenting a cruise-in fundraiser in Newnan.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Alvarado family of Newnan, whose three children were injured in a car accident. The cruise-in car show will be held at Smokey Road Middle School from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

A $10 minimum donation is asked in place of an entry fee for cars, and spectators may enter for free.

The event will include a car show, music, a raffle, local vendors, barbecue plates and other food. All proceeds will help the Alvarado family with the children’s hospital bills and living expenses.

“This family’s life was turned completely upside down in the blink of an eye, and to think about it from the eyes of the parents, and the cousin who was driving… I just knew that they all needed to know that God cared, that God could help them,” said Darrell Land, a leader at Bugs4Christ from Macon.

Brooke and Matthew Spencer and their brother, Taylor Alvarado, were injured in an accident on Aug. 3 while riding with their cousin, Ferdinand Figueroa of Newnan. Figueroa’s newly purchased, red and yellow 1966 VW Beetle was rear-ended while waiting to make a left turn.

Taylor Alvarado, 12, was critically injured at the time of the accident. Matthew Spencer, 13, and Brooke Spencer, 14, were listed as seriously injured. Figueroa also sustained multiple injuries.
