Longtime church member honored at Luthersville Methodist

Menlia Trammell, wife of Luthersville's mayor, chats with Pauline Britt, who sits at a table with family photographs.

Pauline Massey Britt, who is known among friends as someone who thinks about others, was the center of attention at her church on Sept. 23.
Luthersville United Methodist Church celebrated Pauline Britt Day that Sunday. Britt was honored as the church’s oldest member.
A reception honoring Britt was held. In addition to celebrating the honoree’s 90th birthday, the event included recognition of her years of service at Luthersville Methodist – and in the community.
Finger foods, cake and punch were served. A number of photographs from years past were shared.
The celebration for Britt was a topic at Luthersville Methodist’s annual charge conference on Oct. 2. “She had a great time, and so did we,” church member Sue Adams said.
“There were over 100 people there in our fellowship hall for a couple of hours,” Adams said. Margaret Park, who helped organize the festivities for Britt, said guests were still arriving at 5:30 when Britt was getting into the car to go home.
Family members attending the party were Ellen Britt and Jayde Britt; Mollie and Charles Trammell; Joshua, Crystal, Taylor Marie and Logan Trammell; Marie Massey and Angela Massey Booth; Fred Massey Jr. and Diane Massey; Betty Joe Lynch; Marsha Kay Railey; Kelly and Adam Wall; Kaylin and Austin Wall; Sandi Britt Hall and Bailey Hall.

Mollie Britt Trammell also talked about her mother’s close friendship with Margaret Park. Trammell described Park as “Momma’s other daughter.”

Pauline Massey and Tom Britt were married in 1943. She joined Luthersville Methodist three years later.

She has spent most of her life in Luthersville and operated a plant nursery with her late husband for many years.
