The Heritage School Lady Hawks brought their undefeated record into the first round of the GISA AA girls soccer playoffs Saturday and dominated possession throughout as they defeated the Kings Ridge Lady Tigers at home by a score of 11-0.

"Our goals this year were to win the region title, get into the finals and win the state championship," Lady Hawks head coach Ron Rineer said. "We accomplished one of those goals now we need to keep our intensity and work to meet the other goals."

The Lady Hawks managed to get the win within the first five minutes of the match when Katie Kaufmann converted the first goal of the night with an assist by Layna Carnicom with 36:54 remaining.

Heritage School was able to add to the lead three minutes later as Emily Gray Powell used her head for a goal and a 2-0 advantage but the team had trouble adding to the total as many attempts either hit a pole or just missed their mark by a few inches.

However, the Lady Hawks converted an attempt with 26:57 remaining in the half as Kaufmann and Carnicom switched roles with the latter scoring the goal.

The Lady Hawks would maintain the 3-0 lead throughout most of the first half as they continued to control possession and kept the Lady Tigers from scoring opportunities.

The Lady Hawks added one more goal as Kathryn Martin converted a successful attempt with 5:16 remaining and would eventually take the 4-0 lead into the half.

Like the first half, the Lady Hawks continued to control the ball and deny the Lady and two minutes into the second half got on the board as Powell converted her second goal of the evening as Carnicom picked up her second assist.

Kaufmann would get her second goal of the evening when she converted an attempt with 29:07 remaining and Martin followed a minute later with her second goal of the match as Powell recorded an assist.

After the goal, the Lady Hawks had a brief scare as Carnicom and a member of the Lady Tigers collided but after a moment Carnicom would return while the Lady Tiger was helped off the field.

Ironically, Carnicom figured in the scoring for the Lady Hawks as she converted with 23:28 remaining courtesy of an assist from Powell.

Powell would record the hat trick approximately two minutes later while Mary Turner Troutman would put the Lady Hawks in double-digits when she scored with 19:38 remaining and 10 minutes later Megan Gruber would complete the scoring for the Lady Hawks.

"I felt this was our best possession game of the season," Rineer said. "We had the ball for most of the match but there are some things we can still work on for the next round."

Rineer will find out how his charges fare in the second round when they will host either Georgia Christian from Valdosta or First Presbyterian Christian of Hinesville tentatively set for Friday or Saturday.
