As the high school basketball regular season heads into its final two weeks every game takes on added significance as the teams jockey for position in the upcoming region tournaments.
Newnan and East Coweta are in action tonight while Northgate is off until Saturday.
East Coweta hosts Creekside at the John Thrower Gym and Newnan travels to Morrow to take on the Mustangs and the Lady Mustangs.
In GISA play, Heritage visits LaGrange Academy which will host the region tournament beginning next week.
Girls action tips off at 6 p.m. with the boys playing at approximately 7:30 at each of the three sites.
The East Coweta Indians hope to maintain the momentum they picked up Saturday in their 87-50 win over Pebblebrook at home, beating the Falcons after losing to them by 15 on the road earlier in the week.
Madarius Gibbs scored a season-high 30 points to pace the Indians.
Gibbs had quite a weekend, hitting 29 in Friday's 88-55 win over Chapel Hill.
Brandon Farmer also continued his consistent play scoring 14 against Pebblebrook to keep his streak alive of hitting in double figures in all 19 of EC's games so far this year.
It's been two and a half months since the Indians last saw Creekside, playing in the Seminoles' gym in Fairburn back on Nov. 17, EC lost, 79-71, in what was just their second game of the young season.
Joshua Houston led EC with 23 in that first meeing.
East Coweta is 8-11 overall and 5-9 in Region 4-AAAAA heading into tonight's action.
The EC Lady Indians improved to 5-15 and 4-10 after beating Pebblebrook on Saturday.
The will face a"rejuvinated" Crekside team tonight.
The Creekside Lady Seminoles picked up their first win of the season last weekend, beating Langston Hughes, 55-41, to end their 18-game losing streak.
The EC girls beat Creekside 55-45 in their first meeting in mid-November.
The Newnan Cougars hope to bounce back from their disappointing loss at Lovejoy Saturday.
The Cougars were beaten, 60-52, for only their second loss in their last 10 games.
Zander Ogletree led the way with 12 points for the Cougars who are 12-7 overall and 10-5 in the region.
Alec Ogletree and Larry Harden, who had scored a combined 41 points in the Cougars' win over Mundy's Mill on Friday and a combined 45 in the victory over Morrow last week, were kept under wraps by the Wildcats.
Morrow, which lost to Newnan in the Max Bass Athletic Center on Jan. 28, 69-61, beat Riverdale Saturday, 46-40.
The Mustangs are 14-7 and 8-6, but only 5-5 in their last 10 games, alternatingly winning and losing games over the last two and half weeks.
The Lady Cougars lost to Lovejoy on Saturday, 40-34, in overtime and are now 6-13 and 4-11 on the season.
Ashley Montgomery led Newnan with 17 points and Shakeria Langford had 10 as the Lady Cougars lost for the sixth time in their last seven outings.
The Morrow girls won the first meeting with Newnan, 68-48.
Northgate swings back into action Saturday at McIntosh.
The Lady Vikings, 13-8 and 5-5, beat Starr's Mill last Friday, 64-51, while the Vikings, 4-17, 3-7, lost their last outing, 63-25.
