Spring Sports Roundup: Heritage School pitchers no-hit Arlington

The Heritage School Hawks baseball team took care of business Wednesday afternoon, rolling to a 14-0 victory on the road against Arlington Christian in a game called after five innings.
Mack Wilkins and Luke Smith combined on a no-hitter to help lift the Hawks to a 6-0 record. Wilkins threw the first three innings and Smith two en route to the victory.
Offensively, eight different players had at least one hit and the Hawks combined for 10 hits overall in five innings to roll past Arlington.
Candler Rich led the way for the Hawks with a 3 for 4 performance and five RBIs. Lead-off hitter Brad Macke went 2 for 3 for the Hawks and finished with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Nick also had two RBIs and scored a pair of runs. Luke Crook finished with two RBIs. Patrick McKee, Tyler Henson, Sam Pulsipher, and David Bready each had an RBI.
Heritage School took the lead in the top of the first inning when Crooks drove in Macke.
The Hawks broke the game open in the top of the second when their offense generated five runs. Henson’s double led to the Hawks’ productive inning.
Heritage School exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach and take a 13-0 lead.
TRACK AND FIELD – Trinity Christian teams finish second
The Trinity Christian boys and girls track teams used a couple of first-place performances to finish in second place in events at Mill Springs Academy.
Nichole Zaubi swept long distance events by finishing first in the 800 meters (2:51.37), as well as the 1,600 (6:07.48) and 3,200 (13:05.24).
The Lady Lions added a victory from Ashley Caldwell in the 100 hurdles in 21.28 while finishing with 106 points.
Josh Armistead added wins in the the 200 (25.16) and the 400 (56.50) for the Lions while senior Mark Collier captured the discus (89-07).
Trinity Christian's boys finished with 125 points behind only host Mill Springs.
Andrea Campbell was second in the 200 (29.87) and third in the 100 (14.81) for the Lady Lions.
Caldwell also scored by finishing second in the 300 hurdles and third place on the high jump (4-2).
A team of Caldwell, Ruth Colburn, and Sirena Eller took second in the 400 relay while Colburn, Halderman, Caldwell and Zaubi were second in the 1,600. Eller added a fourth-place effort in the discus (53-5).
Also scoring for Trinity’s boys was junior Rodney Neely, who was fourth in 200. Max Collier placed third in the 400.
Trinity Christian's Caleb Nixon added scoring times in both hurdles events, finishing second in both the 110 highs (21.40) and 300 intermediates (50.54).
Michael Troyer (2:52.57) was eighth in the 800 and Knox Panter (7:07.03) was eighth in the 1,600.
Ben Peacock (12:15) was fifth and Alex Rhoades (13:06) in the 3200 meters.
The Lions took second in the 400 and 1,600 relays.
Aaron George, Armistead, Nixon and Noel Fuller ran the 400 while Nixon, Armistead Robby Blanchard and Collier made up the 1,600 relay.
In the field events, Fuller was third in the high jump (5-6), while George took seventh (4-10).
Nixon was also seventh in the long jump (14-9).
TENNIS – Heritage School sweeps region openers
The Heritage School’s tennis teams dominated Thursday’s Region 1-AAA openers against Dominion Christian with respective 5-0 and 4-1 victories from its boys and girls lineups.
For the Hawks — it came in perfect fashion.
All five of Heritage School's lineups came through with 10-0 shutout wins among a Hawks team looking to build on last year’s Class AA state team championship.
Defending AA individual champion Joe Sterrey set the tone for Heritage School while joining returning state qualifier Hamza Khan and Chris Truong among singles winners.
Returning state qualifier Grayson Parker joined Will Farr at No. 1 doubles while Phillip Turner and Lawson Harris won at the No. 2 position.
The Lady Hawks were just as strong led by a shutout win by Tate Crimes at No. 1 singles.
Doubles teams of Madison Crymes/Melinda Hatch and Natalie Bunch/Clara Haugen were equally dominant in respective 10-1 and 10-2 decisions.
Abbie Farr gutted out a 10-6 win over Dominion’s Camille Pugh at No. 2 singles, while Lauren Wheat dropped a 10-8 decision to Emily Filer in play at No. 3 singles.
Heritage School teams will return to play on Monday at Mill Springs in Alpharetta.
