Shutouts set the tone during last Friday's middle-school soccer action, where teams were split into haves and have nots.
All six games played last Friday produced shutout victories, none bigger than Arnall's boys' 1-0 win over East Coweta to vault the Knights into third place in the standings behind frontrunners Lee and Madras. Chandler Costlow scored the only goal of the game off an assist from Zac Slaton and Arnall improved to 3-3-2 with 11 points, one ahead of East Cowerta (2-2-4).
Arnall was coming off a 4-0 win on Thursday over Smokey Road. Costlow had a goal and an assist, while Todd Davis, Will Kampfe and Parker Quinn also scored.
Both Lee and Madras were also shutout winners last Friday. The Timberwolves remained unbeaten at 6-0-2 with a 2-0 win at Smokey Road. Jairo Ruiz and Will Lindquist scored goals for Lee, which also got an assist from Boomer Hayes. John Spavelko made eight saves in goal for the Timberwolves, while Smokey Road's Terence Geter made 11 stops.
Madras' boys stayed a slim point behind Lee in second place, beating Evans 8-0. Giovanni Perez scored three goals and Jonathan Cortez had a pair of goals and three assists in the win. The Eagles (6-1-1) also got goals from Kevin Cheng and Ethan Stotts, while Quintavious Franklin and Austin Rose added assists.
IN CCMSAL GIRLS SOCCER PLAY ON FRIDAY
LEE 4, SMOKEY ROAD 0: Anna Lauzon had a pair of goals as Lee's girls stayed perfect for the 2009 season at 8-0-0 heading into the final week of the regular season. Taylor Hendrix and Nikki Brandley also scored for the Timberwolves and Brittany Whelan, Sara Katherine Parker and Serenity Waters had assists. Jordyn Smith made a pair of saves in goal.
ARNALL 2, EAST COWETA 0: At home, Brittany Deloach had a goal and an assist as Arnall improved its record to 4-2-2. Abby Pepper also scored for the Knights and Taylor Deloach added an assist.
MADRAS 6, EVANS 0: At Madras, Anna Lawrence scored twice and the Eagles kept pace in the CCMSAL standings in second place. Rebecca Turner, Amber Whatley, Dallas Weaver and Katie Mitchell also had goals for Madras (6-1-1). Ann Barboza had an assist and Mattea Lewis had two saves in the victory.
