Reynolds wins Indiana tourney; takes over money winning lead

HAMMOND, IN - Going into the final round of the $100,000 Horseshoe Casino Classic at Lost Marsh Golf Course, the talk was in order to win, you had to go low.

The weather, however, had another idea.

Gusty winds, at times reaching 30 mph, took over and players struggled, with no one scoring under par for the day.

However, Newnan’s Jean Reynolds managed to overcome the wind as she shot a one-over-par 73 Sunday to win the event and claim her fifth straight top 10 finish and her second Duramed title of the season.

"I'm 100 percent glad to be done because the wind just kind of beats you down," said Reynolds who finished the weekend with a total score of three-under-par 213.

"The course played completely different than it did for the past two days.

“I just had to remember not to get frustrated. Pars were good today."

While Reynolds made plenty of pars throughout, she started her day off with a birdie and ended with a bogey, with two more bogeys and one birdie in-between.

"Number 1 has been my favorite hole all week," said Reynolds.

"I've birdied it every day.

“Eighteen is a long hole.

“A bogey's not bad there.

“It plays like a par 5."

Reynolds said she did start to get a little frustrated after she bogeyed No. 15, however, she took a quick look around and started to relax.

"I looked over at the leaderboard after 15, and saw that I was winning," recalls Reynolds.

"I just started to chill out a little after that."

With a couple tournaments, several top-10 finishes this season and a spot in the US Women’s Open, what could be next for Reynolds as she readies for the tournament and for the resumption of the Duramed season in two weeks?

"It's going to take about a month to set in," said Reynolds of her plans.

"I'm going to take a quick break first.

“I'm going home to see the Atlanta Braves play and I'm seeing Beyonce."

The U.S. Women’s Open will be played in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania beginning Friday.

Second-round leader Misun Cho (79) of Cheongju, South Korea and Pornanong Phatlum of Chaiyaphum, Thailand finished in a tie for second at 214 (-2).

With Sunday's win that paid $14,000, Reynolds moves up to the top position in the Duramed FUTURES Tour money list with $63,650 ahead of Mina Harigae who slipped to second place with $57,460.
