Christmas parades will be marching through Senoia tonight and in downtown Newnan Sunday afternoon.

Light Up Senoia features not only the parade and tree lighting, but singing from local groups, a food court, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a Secret Santa workshop for children to buy inexpensive Christmas gifts for family and friends.

Both the food court and Secret Santa Workshop open at 4 p.m., said Suzanne Helfman, chairwoman of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority. Entertainment starts around 5 p.m., and the parade starts at 5:30.

After the parade, Santa will light the big tree and visit with children. Parents can take their own pictures. There will not be a professional photographer, Helfman said.

Senoia First Baptist Church, 41 Johnson St., will feature a live Nativity scene tonight, as well.

The Secret Santa Workshop, at 18 Main St., will have a variety of items in the $1-$3 range, Helfman said. It will be staffed with volunteers who can help children make their purchases, Helfman said.

In downtown Newnan, Main Street's last Market Day for the year will be going on today on the Court Square.

The "Magical Main Street Christmas" parade in Newnan starts at 3 p.m. Sunday on Temple Avenue and continues into downtown Newnan along Jackson Street to the Court Square.

It also will feature the Newnan High School Band, which, along with the East Coweta band, is marching today in the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta parade in downtown Atlanta, broadcast 10 a.m. to noon on WSB, Channel 2.
