Our community is showing off for 'ramblers'

There's a ramble going on in our community this weekend, with more than 150 "ramblers' getting a close look at some of the grand places in the Senoia, Newnan and Roscoe areas.

Beginning Friday and continuing through Sunday, the visitors are here for the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation's annual Fall Ramble, which allows trust members to look at various community gems that are being preserved or already have been preserved.

On Friday the visitors were in Senoia. Today, Newnan is showcased. On Sunday, the group will ramble through the Roscoe community and visit Dunaway Gardens. The visitors are getting a close look at homes, commercial properties, churches and gardens in our community.

A significant aspect of the ramble is that many of the venues, such as private homes, have never been open to the public. The homeowners are opening their homes to the people, who are very involved and interested in historic preservation. That makes this a unique opportunity for the visiting Georgia Trust members.

Newnan and other areas in Coweta County have been successful in historic preservation. Our community has a wealth of properties of historic significance and interest, and it stands ready to showcase what we have and what is being done to preserve what we have to trust visitors from around the state.
