Open house Wed., Thurs. at National Weather Service in Peachtree City

The National Weather Service will be holding a fun and informative open house event for the public Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30-8 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour both the National Weather Service Forecast Office and the Southeast River Forecast Center in Peachtree City.

Event activities will include meeting meteorologists and hydrologists, discovering tools used in making weather and river forecasts, learning how tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings are created and issued, creating a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio broadcast, experiencing a tornado generator, witnessing the launching of an upper air balloon, and much more. Experts will be on hand to answer questions about forecasts and warnings, the drought situation, the hurricane outlook and the winter season.

Parking and attendance for the two-day open house is free. Those wishing to witness the balloon launch should arrive no later than 6:45 pm. A full tour should take about 45 minutes.

The National Weather Service is located at 4 Falcon Drive in Peachtree City.
